Miss Piggy A pig called Mademoiselle (French for Miss) lives the good life at Truffle farm, a beautiful coastal property neear Apollo Bay. Her job, when she's awake, is to sniff out truffles.
Heather Ride and husband Bruce have been developing a little taste of France on their farm. Truffles are a gastronomic delicacy. They're a type of fungus, and only grow around the roots of certain trees. Female pigs are excellent truffle hunters, because the truffles mimic the smell of male pig pheremones.
Dog Coats They may have a furry coat, but dogs feel the cold, especially short haired breeds and puppies.
And don’t forget older dogs with arthritis.
If they can keep warm it helps their joints.
Also remember that dogs kept mostly indoors where it’s warmer can shed their fur all year. So they may not necessarily have a winter coat.
An extra coat protects them from the elements. Just like us when we need to keep out rain, wind, & cold.
And how’s this for as Aussie as you can get, the doggy Driza-bone. These coats are lined for extra protection, and they’re stylish too.
Turtles in Arnhem Land In the remote coastline of Arnhem Land, traditional land owners sing to and about the green turtle – the totem of their clan.
We are visiting aboriginal owned country few balanda or non indigenous people get to see.
Of the seven species of marine turtles found in the world six of them call the coast of Arnhem Land home. And this is where they come back to, time and time again, to nest.
The beautiful ocean hides a deadly threat - ghost nets that trap turtles and other marine life. From April through to August, wind and sea currents wash lost or discarded fishing nets into the Gulf of Carpentaria. They're called ghost nets because they continue to fish as if guided by a ghostly hand.
The Federal Government funds 18 indigenous ranger groups to clean up the nets. So far this season, rangers have returned nine turtles to the wild.
Paraplegic Pets Their injuries are heartbreaking, but their resilience is inspirational.
Tina the dog was left partially paralysed after a serious fall. Spinal surgery proved unsuccessful, but these days Tina is still rolling along.
A nifty set of back wheels helps her get about, and owner Irene is delighted.
Another dog, Ralphie, is having water physiotherapy. Big Buster is a bit wobbly, but doing well. Contact:
